We wanted to take a quick moment to shoutout one of our members, Josh Baker.
As a staple in the photography scene of Austin (most of you already know him), Josh uses his expertise to teach other photographers how to find their artistic voice behind a camera.
Josh was kind enough to answer a few questions regarding his career.
How did you get your start in photography?
My photographic journey started with a video camera in high school broadcast journalism department. I originally wanted to be an anchor for SportsCenter or a photographer for Sports Illustrated. From there I worked as a content provider for the Austin American Statesman from 1997-2000 covering high school sports. Took some years off from the camera and then got real serious again in 2006, launching my business in 2008.
What is your favorite thing to take photos of?
Oh, good question. Favorite thing to take photos off is probably interesting people. I look mostly for intelligence in peoples eyes and smirk on their lips.
What's your favorite part of the process?
My favorite part of the process. I love the suspension of time during the actual shooting when its a great shoot. No distractions, just floating on the rush of creative forces coming together. Flipside is slogging through all of the edits on shoots that don't inspire as much.
What's the best advice you can give to aspiring photographers?
For aspiring photographers I would say shoot for yourself for as long as possible. Build your own style and interests before chasing brands or clients. Taking payment changes the nature of photography by shifting the photo needs from internal to external.
Where is your favorite place to eat in Round Rock?
My favorite spot to eat in Round Rock right now is probably Blue Corn Harvest. Though shoutout to the RR Pluckers. I helped open that location and did the bulk of the hiring for that location. Bakers Gold is named for me!

You can meet Josh, and plenty of other RRS members, at one of our future events.
